It’s January and the start of a new year which can only mean one thing, travel booking time! First up we are booking our accommodation for mine and C’s first big trip together outside of Europe, which means we are heading to my favourite place in the world… New York City.
I’ve previously been twice and C once and we’ve been planning it for a few months but had a mixed bag of disappointments and excitements when looking for somewhere to stay, booking accommodation has been problematic. We originally wanted to try the more ‘authentic’ experience of staying in someone’s apartment booking through Airbnb but unfortunately, when trying to book, hosts were either not allowing us to book the dates we wanted or were uncontactable. The cost was also another issue and finding any decent apartments for less than $200 a night in Manhattan is very difficult! This also goes for hotels even after choosing from a list of about 10 well-known hipster/boutique stays.
Eventually, we stumbled upon the newly constructed and open LES Orchard Street Hotel, which after some research doesn’t seem to have been much of a popular construction with local neighbours. I can sympathise with locals but unfortunately, New York doesn’t offer much in decent budget stays and thankfully OSH seems to offer both.
No one really goes to New York to sit in the hotel room all day long anyway so just having a decent base to report back to every evening is all we want. We are both very much looking forward to staying in the new Hotel and will report back after our stay in in the second quarter of 2016.
