Open for business 7 days a week with regularly changing specials, you can find DL’s Deli and Cafe above the Harbour Gallery in St. Aubins. With high ceilings and pendant lighting, the slightly industrial look about the place has a bright and friendly atmosphere.
With a selection of freshly baked goods including dulce de leche chocolate fudge brownies and banana cake on display even before you glance at the menu there is more than enough to get your mouth watering.
Along shelves on the far right hand divider there are more deli style products including Genuine Jersey and many gluten free varieties, really catering to the needs of everyone.
Never having been here before we had underestimated how busy it would be so if theres a few of you get there in plenty of time as breakfast finishes at 11.30.
There are no menus on tables, instead the menu’s line the walls, clearly stating the differently options. This is aesthetically pleasing but not to everyone’s preference so if you want to see a menu just ask, for those hard of reading they have some printed too. Considering the menu changes regularly though I think it’s a wise decision for the business to have the boards.
The options on the breakfast menu were well chosen to suit a range of different tastes, with a classic full english or a healthier natural yoghurt and berry compote with granola.
H opted for a chili sausage roll, the flaky pastry and meaty filling caught his eye as soon as we walked in, he debated with the idea of scrambled eggs on toast with bacon but the sausage roll won. It wasn’t on his plate for long and I think he wishes he got another to take away for later on.
Annouska opted for the full english, which included, bacon, fried egg, sausage, black pudding, mushroom, grilled tomato, beans and the seeded toast she’d opted for. It looked really impressive. It was beautifully displayed, perfectly cooked and not swimming in grease ( I think thats the easiest way to put me off a full english!)
I opted for the smashed avocado on sourdough toast topped with fried egg ( you can see that it’s one of my favourite breakfasts) I switched out the egg for bacon as thats what I fancied. I love that the avocado was still quite chunky – I always get carried away and over smash. The bacon was crispy as I’d requested and the tomatoes were warm and soft. The crunchiness of the toast, the soft freshness of the avo, the warm charred tomatoes and salty, crispy bacon – I mean how could this not taste amazing! It really was just what I wanted.
