How To Host A Mexican Inspired Dinner Party

If you’ve been following us on Instagram for a while; you’ll know that Two Humans Living dinner parties are in full swing. Whether it was our Greek themed dinner a month or two ago, or our more recent Mexican Fiesta. We haven’t thus far really featured our love of hosting on the blog itself…but that is set to change. Welcome to our take on a Mexican Inspired Dinner Party.

Setting The Scene

Our collection of cacti and hydrangeas from the garden filled the centre of the table. The greenery worked so well against the pale blue of the hydrangeas. Originally I wanted pink or yellow flowers to add brightness and to contrast. But seeing these beautiful hydrangeas outside our kitchen window, it seemed silly to not bring some indoors. We also scattered these cacti tea lights around which Danny bought me, they seem too appropriate not to use!

Adding glasses of fresh mint and coriander was a nice way to add fresh aromatics to the setting too; I love creating notes for all the senses. I picked up these fun printed napkins and simply tied them in a loose knot. I like doing this as it keeps the table feeling very relaxed.

Mezcal Old Fashion Mexican Cocktail

We welcomed everyone with a Mezcal Old Fashioned.

Mexican Dinner Party Ideas

Which we knew everyone would enjoy.

Mexican Chilli Lime Cashews

They complimented the spicy, crunchy Chilli Lime Cashews beautifully.

Toss fresh lime zest, salt, dried chilli pepper, brown sugar and egg white with some plain cashews. Then roast for 20 minutes. I topped them with more lime zest and fresh chilli to add more of a kick.

Mexican Quesadillas

Next came some Chicken, Chilli, Cheese Quesadillas topped with fresh coriander.

Poach chicken breasts and shred, layer the chicken, grated cheese (we used smoked applewood), thinly sliced red onion and finely diced chilli between two tortillas. Bake in the oven, turning half way through, on a low heat until lightly toasted and the cheese has melted. Slice up and serve with fresh coriander.

Papegaai wine review

Not knowing what to pair with the menu, we heading to Love Wine for some advice. They were able to recommend a red and a white wine to go with our spicy Mexican menu. Not only is the packaging of these bottles beautiful but they couldn’t have gone better with the meal.

The red in particular received a lot of compliments from our guest and they couldn’t believe the accessible price either. As we love Mexican food as much as our friends I’m sure we will be stocking up on a few bottles of this.

Mexican Taco Recipe

For the main course, we set out a Build Your Own Tacos style platter through out the centre of the table so everyone could create their own.

Mexican Brownie Recipe

And finally, for dessert, we served Mexican Brownies with Vanilla Ice cream which we sprinkled with cinnamon.

For the Mexican brownies; simply add 3/4 Tsp of chipotle paste and 1 Tsp of cinnamon to your favourite boxed brownies or homemade recipe.

Will you be hosting your own Mexican Fiesta anytime soon?
